What runs locally, and what does not

Summarisation is local. The WebGPU model above runs in your browser and your transcript is never uploaded for summarising. Live transcription is not local in Chrome or Edge — the Web Speech API sends audio to the browser vendor. We do not receive, store or analyse any of it, and there are no accounts, but we will not claim an upload does not happen when it does. For fully on-device transcription, use the Basil app.

No Meeting Data Collection

We don't collect, store, or analyze your meeting transcriptions — nothing is sent to Basil. Your transcripts and AI summaries stay in your browser (see the note above about the browser's own speech recognition). There are no user accounts required. Your private meeting notes and confidential transcripts are yours alone and remain on your device. This makes our tool ideal for sensitive use cases like:

Recording duration: Browser-based recording is best for sessions under 2 hours. For longer recordings (up to 8 hours), use the native iOS/Mac app which offers superior battery efficiency and reliability.

Offline use: The web transcriber requires an initial internet connection to load. For fully offline recording and transcription, download the Basil AI native app.
